Job Details

• Provides services in Anatomic pathology as a member of a team under the direction and supervision of a qualified Pathologist.
• Assists in the preparation and performance of human post-mortem examination.
• Assists in the preparation and performance of human surgical specimen examinations including gross description and complete dissection of surgical specimens.
• Selection and submission of tissue sections for microscopic examination (frozen and permanent sections for light, electron and fluorescent microscopy).
• Responsible for accessioning of specimens and assuring proper identification in accordance with surgical pathology policies.
• Prepares containers and tissue cassettes.
• Aids in resident training and credentialing, offering technical and teaching support.
• Assesses resident competency in handling specimens.
• Responsible for gross photography of specimens and maintenance of related files.
• Responsible for tumor procurement for biorepository and related documentation and quality assurance.
• Aids in quality assurance and quality control plans, focusing on specimen identification, frozen sections, and maintenance of instruments and refrigerators.
• Responsible for inventory and ordering of supplies for frozen section room and surgical pathology lab.
• Selects gross tissue and extremities for disposal after reports are finalized.
• Performs autopsy including external examination, in situ organ inspection, evisceration, dissection, submission of tissue sections, and dictation or recording of data from gross and microscopic examinations.
• Assists in other related duties as directed or as time permits.

Job Requirements

• Must be licensed or certified as required by state regulations for Pathologists Assistant.
• Knowledge and skills in anatomic pathology specimen handling and autopsy procedures.
• Ability to perform gross dissection and prepare specimens for microscopic examination.
• Competency in specimen accessioning and identification.
• Experience or training in resident education and competency assessment.
• Familiarity with quality assurance and quality control procedures in pathology lab settings.
