Job Description & RequirementsPosition Title: Geriatric Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN)\n\nShift: Rotating Days/Evenings/Nights | Every Other Weekend | 36 Hours/Week\nUnit: Epstein 3 – Geriatric Psych Unit\nLocation: Massachusetts\nCertifications Required:\n\nValid Massachusetts RN License\n\nAHA BLS (Basic Life Support)\n\nCertification in De-escalation (AVADE training offered on-site)\n\n🧠 Unit Overview:\n\nEpstein 3 is a Geriatric Psychiatric Inpatient Unit specializing in the treatment of older adults with complex psychiatric and co-occurring medical needs. The unit supports patients dealing with:\n\nDepression, anxiety, suicidal ideation\n\nSchizophrenia, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder\n\nDual diagnosis (mental health and substance use)\n\nMedically acute conditions such as diabetes, IV therapy, wound care, and CPAP management\n\n👩⚕️ Required Experience & Skills:\n\nMinimum 2 years of inpatient adult psychiatric nursing experience\n\nProficient with psychotropic medications and management of side effects\n\nCharge nurse experience or readiness to assume that role\n\nAdmission & discharge processes and documentation\n\nExperience with EPIC EMR and Omni Cell medication dispensing\n\nCompetence in:\n\nIV pump operation\n\nDiabetic patient care\n\n👥 Patient & Staffing Information:\n\nPatient Population: Geriatric adults with mental health and/or medical comorbidities\n\nRN -to-Patient Ratio: 1:7 or 1:8\n\n🔄 Schedule & Shift Details:\n\nShift rotation required for Day/Eve/Night schedule:\n\n7:00 AM – 7:00 PM\n\n11:00 AM – 11:00 PM\n\n7:00 PM – 7:00 AM\n\nNight Shift positions are fixed (no rotation)\n\nEvery other weekend commitment required\n\nFloating may be required to similar psych units\n\n📚 Preferred Knowledge:\n\nMassachusetts Department of Mental Health regulations\n\nRestraint and seclusion rights\n\nLegal statuses of patients\n\nCourt-ordered medications\n\nLegal frameworks:\n\nGuardianship\n\nHealthcare proxies (invoked vs. confirmed)
