Your Role: Middle School Math Teacher

As a Middle School Math Teacher , you will be an integral part of a grade-level team, guiding students on their journey to becoming self-directed learners. Your passion for mathematics will inspire students, helping them develop the skills and mindset needed to tackle challenges head-on. By the end of eighth grade, your students will be ready for the academic rigor and college preparatory focus of our high schools.

Key Responsibilities

1. Instruction

  • Teach foundational middle school math principles, including ratios, proportions, expressions, equations, and more!
  • Utilize our in-house CCSS-based Math curriculum and culturally responsive problem-solving activities.
  • Motivate students to engage with complex problems and think critically about various solutions.
  • Foster confidence and meaningful engagement with mathematics through your enthusiasm.

2. Data Analysis

  • Collaborate weekly with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze student work samples and assessment trends.
  • Implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners in your classroom.

3. School Culture

  • Build positive relationships with students, ensuring they feel seen, loved, and heard.
  • Partner with families to provide the necessary resources to support their child's learning needs.
  • Engage in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions.
  • Participate in weekly school-wide meetings to cultivate community and encourage student achievement.
  • Collaborate with your grade-level team to set academic goals and refine instructional strategies.
Qualifications
  • A strong commitment to supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic development.
  • A collaborative spirit, eager to work with internal and external partners for the benefit of students.
  • A self-directed learner who actively seeks and implements feedback to improve outcomes.
  • Required Experience:
    • 1-2 years of experience impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities is preferred.
    • Academic expertise in Mathematics, Science, Technology, Engineering, or related fields.
    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required prior to employment. Certification is not mandatory at hiring, but you must meet NY state certification eligibility requirements and enroll in a teacher preparation program if you do not have a degree in education.

Compensation

The salary for this role ranges from $50,000 to $64,700 . Starting pay is determined by various factors, including relevant full-time teaching experience, educational certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time teaching experience will likely start at $50,000.
