Job Description

DEFINITION:
This position involves and requires a wide variety of work involving but not limited to: the maintenance of Peters Township property and roadways, operating heavy equipment, operating hand tools, plowing snow, equipment repair and maintenance, traffic control (flagging), manual labor, paving and street patching, or any other duties and assignments as directed by the immediate supervisor or Board of Supervisors.


The successful candidate could potentially be required to obtain a license to operate/assist in the operation of the Upton Sewage Treatment Plant within 18-24 months of hire date. This position reports to the Roadmaster, Township Manager and/or Board of Supervisors.

This is a full-time position. Specific hours are outlined in the Employee Pay Policy; however, this position is always on-call for response to local emergencies, particularly roadway emergencies. Candidate must live within 30 minutes of the Peters Township, Franklin County complex.

$18-$24 starting hourly pay, depending on experience.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Complete all daily work assignments as assigned by the Roadmaster
  • Responsible for the repair, maintenance, and construction of township roads; to include traffic
    control, roadway signage maintenance, and record keeping
  • Responsible for mowing weeds and cutting brush along township roads
  • Provide for proper drainage along township roads
  • Maintain culvert pipes, storm drains and road signs along township roads
  • Plow and cinder township roads in winter and during other inclement weather
  • Responsible for the repair and maintenance of township vehicles, equipment, and tools
  • Ensure the garages, tools, equipment and vehicles are organized, clean and kept in good
    condition
  • Responsible for the maintenance of all township buildings and grounds
  • Ensure appropriate interior and exterior maintenance and improvements at township park pending
  • Stay informed of township related regulations
  • Attend training and continuing education seminars, webinars, etc.
  • Assist with township recycling programs: third Saturday morning monthly and Bulky Item
    Collections Days (2) annually in May
  • Perform other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be reliable and have integrity
  • Must be able to interact with Township residents and staff in a professional, courteous and
    respectful manner
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with others, take direction, and be open to
    suggestions and/or constructive feedback
  • Must have the ability to also work independently when required
  • Must have the ability to recognize work that needs done and take the initiative to ensure the
    task is satisfactorily and safely completed
  • Must have experience and ability to skillfully operate heavy equipment/vehicles & possess
    knowledge of road construction work
  • Requires Class A or Class B Pennsylvania commercial driver's license with clean accident
    record at time of hire OR must obtain within 90 days of hire date.
  • Must submit to pre-employment drug test & periodic random drug/alcohol testing as required
    by law
  • LTAP Roads Scholar Certification or (work toward/maintain) similar training/experience
  • Skills to understand and perform routine mechanical operations
  • Requires the ability and willingness to use required safety equipment to comply with safe
    operating procedures for hand-tools, power equipment and vehicles and require employees
    to do the same
  • Must be available for overtime as required
  • Requires availability to plow and cinder roads on an on-call basis
  • Physical requirements include:



  1. Ability to work outside in weather that may include extreme seasonal conditions
  2. Must be able to see, hear, walk, stand, squat, shovel, rake, climb stairs and ladders, climb in and out of ditches, inlets, etc.
  3. Ability to lift heavy objects and/or move 50 lbs.


EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or the equivalent
  • Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Driver's License (with clean driving record or must obtain
    within 90 days of hire date)
  • Heavy Equipment Operating Experience- preferred but not necessary
  • Equipment Maintenance Experience- preferred but not necessary


JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • 6-Month Probationary Period
  • Full Time: 40 hours per week
  • Work Area: Peters Township, Franklin County
  • Pay Method: Wages paid bi-weekly
