The Cook will be a key member of the Athletic Dining and Catering team at John Paul Jones Arena, responsible for preparing and cooking high-quality meals for university athletes and special events. This role requires a passion for culinary arts, a strong understanding of food safety, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will be a team player with excellent communication skills and a commitment to providing outstanding service.
Food Preparation: Prepare and cook a variety of menu items, following established recipes and culinary standards.
Menu Execution: Assist in the planning and execution of daily menus for athletic dining as well as for catering events.
Quality Control: Ensure all food is prepared to the highest standards of quality, taste, and presentation.
Food Safety: Adhere strictly to all food safety and sanitation guidelines to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
Inventory Management: Monitor food stock and communicate with the management team to ensure proper inventory levels.
Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient operations during service.
Equipment Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized work station and assist with the cleaning of kitchen equipment.

Proven experience as a Cook or in a similar culinary role.
Knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, and equipment.
Understanding of food safety and sanitation procedures (ServSafe certification is a plus).
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by the athletic and event schedule.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
